Sally Haldane, Breastfeeding Advisor
I had the pleasure of working with Knotstressed for over 3 years prior to the arrival of my 3rd child and during this time provided antenatal and breastfeeding support in group sessions and on a 1:1 basis. Following my maternity leave and some covid upheaval, I am now very excited to be returning to Knotstressed and really looking forward to running the breastfeeding sessions again.
Breastfeeding is an absolute passion of mine. Having worked in the NHS as a midwife in Cardiff, London and Edinburgh for 12 years, I really understand the importance of good antenatal preparation for breastfeeding to get off to a great start and I love helping parents to share that passion too. This breastfeeding workshop will really help you to feel confident about starting your breastfeeding journey and will help to make the transition to parenthood and feeding your baby, easier and one of real joy.
In Edinburgh, I have worked in all areas of the maternity unit, giving me lots of different experiences with breastfeeding. This included facilitating uninterrupted skin-skin when babies are first born; daily and night support to new parents and babies who are keen to get home and breastfeed successfully in their own environments; teaching the art of hand expressing antenatally in order to help in the early days after birth, especially if babies are finding it difficult to latch on; as well providing support with expressing if babies are in the neonatal unit. All these areas are important for breastfeeding to become well established in the first few days and weeks following birth and this can all be made so much easier with a good understanding of how breastfeeding works before your baby is born. We will cover these areas in the breastfeeding workshop as well as much more.
I have also breastfed each of my three children to over the age of 2, and so I have a lot of breastfeeding hours under my own belt, which has given me a huge insight into the challenges that there can be with breastfeeding. However, the over-riding memory of those years is definitely one of joy and sheer amazement at what our bodies can do and the amazing bond that comes with it.
Due to busy family life with three children, I no longer work as a midwife. However, it is a real pleasure and privilege to continue working with and supporting pregnant women and their families whilst they prepare for birth, breastfeeding and the transition to motherhood and I love using my many years of experience to help. I look forward to working with you. Please get in touch if you have any questions at all.
